My Affair with Hair, To be a chemist or not

Hello everyone,

Ever since I started taking a serious interest in my hair affairs, there is always a thought in the back of my head just lingering there. A little voice whispering to me, maybe you should have paid extra attention to chemistry both in high school and university.

I swear this natural hair business is some serious stuff, do not be lied to it takes a lot of hard work and commitment to have healthy hair. Well at least that’s according to me .So many things to learn, what to put into your hair and what not, chemical this chemical that, and it does not help the situation if you are a certified product junkie.

Now where do we begin? If you decide to jump on this natural hair band wagon you must be fully committed. First of all you must embrace your natural hair, learn and study how to take care of it. This is not the easiest of tasks, but we all know with hard work and commitment you are certain to get results.

In this post will briefly discuss the importance of water for our hair. All of life requires water to grow and flourish. Water is not only critical for your body organs, but also for the growth and health of your hair.

According to Tiesha Whatley, Water is essential for the health of hair for a number of reasons. The hair is one quarter water. That fact alone should accentuate how important water is for the hair. Water also carries essential vitamins to the hair root and hydrates the entire hair strand from the inside. Water is the main source of energy for hair cells, including the cells that generate new hair growth. Water also clears the body from pollutants, which also cause hair loss. Without proper hydration, you will see dryness in your hair and skin that can only be restored by drinking at least 8-10 glasses of water a day.

Most of us know for a fact that, our bodies are made up of about 75% water. This must tell us that water is critical for us on so many levels.
When we drink water, a large amount is directed to our vital organs. Then the little that is left is directed to the other remaining parts of the body. So if you are already not taking in enough water, I am afraid that very little will go to your scalp. What we should also bear in mind is the fact that, while we may think we are taking in enough water, we are also loosing water throughout the day (Urine, sweat). Therefore it is important for you to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day to have this balanced out.

It is important for you hair to have moisture from the inside as is from the outside. The water you drink provides your hair shaft with water on the inside, and the moisture on the outside comes from the water and products you put in/onto your hair.

All known forms of life depend on water. Water is vital both as a Solvent in which many of the body's solutes dissolve and as an essential part of many metabolic processes within the body. In other words water is your best friend when it comes to the affairs of your hair.

As always stay blessed.

Omg you are so right. When I decided to go natural I thought it would be this great journey of self discovery and Africanness lol :) I think i totally romanticized the whole process. Fastforward a yr and between the clarifying, moisturizing, sealing, protein treatments and PH balancing I cant help but feel like its school blah!! I love learning about my natural hair and especially making my own products, look forward to seeing more of your hair posts. PS. I wish I had your touch with hair, you always have the best styles:)
